Ownership cards

An ownership card is for the whole responsibility: noticing, planning, and doing. A task might say “buy pet food.” An ownership card can hold the ongoing job of keeping pet supplies sorted. The point is to make expectations clear enough that neither person has to manage the other.

Choose a card that fits your household. Talk about who owns it and write a standard together. “Done means the clean laundry is put away” says more than “do laundry.” Pick a standard you can both live with, then choose a frequency if the job repeats.

When the job is done, log it. A completion is a chance to notice effort and send a thank-you. It is not a point on a scoreboard, and it does not measure how much someone cares.

Responsibilities can change. Propose a handoff when you need to move a card to your partner. They can accept or decline; a proposal is not an automatic assignment.

If a standard or handoff keeps getting stuck, add a topic to your next check-in. Talk about the responsibility and the capacity each person has this week.
